GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Chef Lynn Wells with A Thyme Well Spent Personal Chef Services, Inc. has a great way to get them out of their room, off their video games and into the kitchen.

"Kids love to get their hands involved," said Wells.  "Baking cakes is great, but you can jazz it up with some simple ideas they'll enjoy."

Chef Lynn shared some of her favorite kid friendly dishes Thursday on the Good Morning Show: Beef Jerky, Fruit Leather (Roll Ups), Trail Mix, Sandwich Cookies, Whole Roasted Carrots and Spiced Nuts.

Be sure to watch the video included in this web story for her expert tips to making cooking fun in the kitchen.

You can also try the Beef Jerky for yourself with this easy recipe:

Kid Friendly Beef Jerky

Ingredients:
Servings 8
•    2 pounds flank steak
•    1 teaspoons black pepper
•    1 teaspoons chili powder
•    1 teaspoons garlic powder
•    2 teaspoons of sugar
•    1 teaspoon onion powder
•    1 teaspoon liquid smoke
•    2 Tablespoons soy sauce
•    1⁄4 cup Worcestershire sauce

Instructions:

Trim all visible fat off meat and place in a zip lock bag. Freeze steak (whole) for 30 minutes before slicing. Remove steak from freezer and cut into 4 inch strips, ½ inch thick.
Add all liquid and seasonings in a large bowl and mix well. Pour liquid in a clean zip lock bag and place sliced meat in bag. Refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 150-175 F.
Line bottom of oven with tin foil.
Place marinated steak strips directly on clean oven rack, don't overlap meat.
Bake six hours. Jerky is done when meat is dried out, depending on your oven.
Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
Note: Adult supervision is recommended whenever knives are being used.
